As economic strains continue to bite amidst ravaging COVID-19 pandemic, commercial tricycles riders in Taraba state are lamenting that with the lockdown order imposed many are now finding it difficult to feed their families.

The riders regret that contrary to claims that government palliative was doled out in some states, residents are yet to get a dime.

In a statement, the Association of Tricycle Riders in Taraba appealed to Governor Darius Ishaku to review the lockdown policy imposed, stressing that more than 10,000 of its members were suffering and cannot feed their families.

The association in a statement signed by the group chairman Alhaji A A Bello also advised the government to allow its member to either be carrying two passengers per tricycle or a time limit for them to operate, ‘’ current situation has brought untold hardship on its members,’’ it stated.

They further lament that private and commercial cars could be seen conveying passengers with no specification on numbers of passengers allowed to be taken which could augur well in the fight against the spread of the COVID 19 pandemic.

“The lockdown has brought untold hardship to more than 10,000 registered members living in Jalingo metropolitan by denying them access to daily food.

“Our appeal is to the Executive Governor of Taraba State being the Chief Security officer to look into the issue and allow us to be carrying even two passengers per Tricycle (keke) or they should be given time to operate base to enable them to feed their families.’’
