Thousands of women in Jos, the Plateau capital have staged a protest against the government for not fulfilling its promise of distributing palliatives to cushion the effect of the lockdown.

The protesting women are alleging that despite being at the venue of the distribution exercise since yesterday, nothing has come their way and no government official appeared at the venue with relief materials for distribution.

Reports say the protesting women blocked Zaria road along with Federal Government College, in the early hours of Saturday.

One of the protesters who pledges anonymity said, “after waiting for hours yesterday, we were told to come back today and on getting there this morning, we did not see any government official that will distribute any palliative to us.

“We won’t leave the road until the state government bring the palliatives and distribute to us”, She insisted.

Speaking on the matter, Dan Manjang, commissioner of Information, said he’s not aware of the development and will find out from the committee on palliatives and get back.

He has yet to call as of press time.

Recall that Plateau state government in a statewide broadcast said, the government will give out palliatives to cushion the hardship being faced by people as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Government is aware of the hardship being faced by our citizens particularly the vulnerable and weak.

“The palliative committee headed by the Deputy Governor Prof. Sonni Tyoden will commence distribution to those who are truly in need by Saturday 25th April 2020”, the statement had read.
