Like other parts of Adamawa state, in Mayo Belwa town and its environs, the fear of kidnappers is the beginning of wisdom as residents mostly crop farmers are yet to get respite from the destructive activities of bandits that forced many to desert their houses.

Although there is no reliable offcial record of human killings, residents simply lack the audacity to challenge the gun-wielding kidnappers over their destructive actions, apparently for fear of the unknown.

Disturbed by the incessant kidnappings and insecurity plaguing the area in recent times, Mayo Belwa Development Foundation paid a courtesy visit to the Adamawa State House of Assembly to call for prompt action.

Leading the delegation, Alh HammaAdama Hamidu Chukkol, the chairman of the foundation said unless something urgent was done about the deteriorating security situation in the area, no one knows what the outcome of the bandits’ actions will result to.

He said due to the rise in kidnappings many residents have deserted their homes,’’  people are now living in fear of being kidnapped and this ugly development had forced many to leave their homes for fear of uncertainty.

‘’ Hardly a day or two will pass without hearing a report of kidnappings in our area and that’s why as community leaders saw the need to come to you as our representatives for you to come to our plights.

‘’ We have other challenges, but security is the top priority because no development can be achieved with insecurity,’’ he said.

Chukkol, who is also the Ubandoma Mayo Belwa also prevailed on the need for proper legislation in handling local community issues especially in harmonizing local vigilantes, ‘’ there seems to increase in local arms running in our societies and increase in a number of vigilante groups which required proper legislation and registration.

‘’ These groups need proper checking and training, so that they can play their roles effectively and efficiently; they need to be properly monitored and assisted, and we do hope our lawmakers can enact laws and neighborhood watch laws and this is the right time,’’ he urges.

Also corroborating the Secretary of the foundation, TPL Mohammed Danladi, drew the attention of member representing Mayo-Belwa Ibrahim Musa Italiya, on boosting educational policies, with emphasis on science-related courses and other subjects which is a bedrock of development in every society.

‘’ The community is also facing numerous challenges in areas of education, but as a lawmaker, we want to draw your attention on boosting educational policies especially in science-related courses that can help our youths in entrepreneurship and self-reliance.

‘’ We also prevail on the need for lobbying in government for channeling development program of this administration to the local government areas,’’ he pleaded.

In his remarks, member representing Mayo-Belwa Ibrahim Musa Italiya, thanked the delegation for identifying with him and promised to look in to all issues raised.

‘’ I really appreciate you for the visit and I can assure you that all issues raised will be looking into because insecurity is a serious problem that all hands must be on deck. People should also be security conscious,’’ he urges.

The lawmaker, popularly known as Italiya however requested collaborative efforts to achieve the desired result, ‘’ as representative of our people we are fully aware of what’s happening in our constituency, so we need to collaborate to achieve success.

‘’ My doors are opened, and I am your servant, we will do our best in tackling the problems ours is to legislate but we are working harmoniously with the other arms of government and security organs,’’ Italiya noted.

Receiving the delegation, the Speaker, Adamawa State House of Assembly   Aminu Iya Abbas  the community leaders for the visit, just as he urges local communities to channels their concerns and challenges before their representatives.
