Kayode Fayemi, the Governor of Ekiti State has restructured his cabinet, relieving two commissioners of their duties and redeploying five as special advisers

The commissioners who were fired include Dr Mojisola Yaya Kolade (Health) and Mr Gbenga Agbeyo (Environment).

The governor also inaugurated commissioner-designates who were screened and confirmed by the State House of Assembly last week. Cabinet members were reportedly perturbed when Mr Fayemi sent names of seven nominees to the lawmakers.

The newly inaugurated commissioners are: Mr Akin Omole (Information and Values Orientation); Dr Oyebanji Filani (Health); Mr Akin Oyebode (Finance and Economic Development); Prince Olabode Adetoyi (Agriculture and Food Security); Otunba Oladiran Adesua (Housing and Urban Development); Dr (Mrs) Olabimpe Aderiye (Education, Science and Technology); Mrs Mariam Ogunlade (Women Affairs and Social Development); and Princess Iyabode Fakunle-Okhiemen (Environment and Natural Resources). Muyiwa Olumilua was moved to the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industries.

Five commissioners were reassigned roles as Special Advisers. They include: Mrs Moji Fafure, ex-commissioner for Women Affairs now SA Gender Empowerment; Mr Olabode Folorunsho, former commissioner for Agriculture now SA Community Development; Mr Olusoga Davies, former commissioner for Trade and Investment now SA Political Matters; Mr Ayoola Owolabi, former commissioner for Finance now SA Trade and Investment and Folusho Daramola, former commissioner for Education now SA Governor’s Office.

Professor Femi Akinwunmi was inaugurated as Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), while Mr Febisola Adewale was appointed as member Local Government Service Commission.

Mr Fayemi said an evaluation of the performance of his administration and realities prompted the changes.

“We have recently carried out a midterm assessment of this administration and made a few changes in line with our performance and emerging reality towards refining our government agenda and strengthen our team.

“This accounts for the appointment of new people into various positions of authority in the state. It also accounts for the re-designation of some ministries and the creation of new bureaus,” He said.

The governor urged new appointees to take public service as an opportunity to serve and not one for self-aggrandizement.
