No fewer than four local hunters were arrested for alleged armed robbery in some parts of Adamawa state, CP Mr Olugbenga   Adeyanju, police commissioner in the state has said.

Adeyanju who dropped the hint during the Police /Community Engagement Framework forum aimed at addressing Farmers – Herders Conflict, held, said that the suspects were members of Hunters Association and were nabbed by Ganye Police Division.

He regrets that, while the government was given much emphasis on community policing for collective security responsibility, there are others who were trusted are now sabotaging the efforts.

‘’ It’s so disheartening, that in the last few days, we arrested four hunters whom we trust and engaged to help us fight crimes, but somehow turns to be armed robbers and one of them confessed to us.

” This development has made us to be careful in engaging people into Community policing,” Adeyanju said.

On the stakeholder’s forum, CP Adeyanju said that the core objective of the meeting was to prepare ahead as farm cultivation was approaching to prevent future conflicts between Farmers and Herders.

Also speaking, Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri, said that weapons had never solved any conflict and that the only solution to it was through dialogue.

Fintiri, represented by his Special Advisor on security  Comdr. Sinebi Hungiapiko , retired, said that the issue of security was the responsibility of all.

” You cannot solve communal insecurity with guns, but you can maintain and control it through dialogue, ” he said.

Also in his address, the Lamido of Adamawa, Muhammadu Barkindo expressed concerns over frequent conflicts between farmers and herders, adding that solving conflicts at the present era need a dimensional approach.

He said that among the approaches to include:  involvement of Traditional rulers in security issues and provision of modern equipment to police to fight crimes.
