The Adamawa Police Command recognized and honored seven local hunters vigilante operatives for their contributions in the fight against crime and criminality in the state.

Presenting the award certificates on Tuesday, at the state police Headquarters’, commissioner of police, CP. Olugbenga Adeyanju said that the award and recognition followed the sacrifices the men gave  at enhancing security in the area , ‘’ such gesture will serve as morale booster to other local crime fighters.’’

In his words, ‘’ the command is ever ready to work with good and trusted groups of individuals like these gallant hunters and vigilantes that are helping police just as we will continue to deal with the bad eggs.’’

The commissioner also paraded 32 suspected kidnappers 4 armed robbers before newsmen, saying that they were apprehended in various places across the state.

He said that one of the suspects Hamidu Umaru (37) and others at large have in September 2020 kidnapped an 11-year-old boy in Sangere Futy, Girei Local government.

“Sometimes in the month of September 2020, the first suspect along with others now at large kidnapped an 11-year-old boy and several others at Sangere Duty, Girei  LGA. The command swung into action and luckily apprehended the chief executor of the crime in Mubi. Investigation conducted led to the recovery of eight vehicles. All the vehicles were bought with the ransom received from victims of kidnappings.

The commissioner of police also noted that three of the suspected kidnappers namely; Yusuf Musa (35), Sale Kade Adamu (30), Modi Luka (33) were involved in kidnapping activities in both Adamawa and Taraba States

” The suspects in various places kidnapped several people, demanded and collected N30m ransom. Among those kidnapped are; Maryam Modibbo Ali, Ibrahim Modibbo Ali, Alh. Musa Usman and Dr. Mamuda all residents of Nguroje and Maisamari villages in Taraba States and one Usman Ardo a resident of Mayo-Belwa. Investigation condition not only led to their arrest but equally recovered five AK 47 rifles in their possession,” he said.

The commissioner also noted that 32 among the suspects were apprehended for allegedly committing kidnapping and armed robbery.

“The suspects on several occasions kidnapped, demanded and collected ransom of N10m from their innocent victims who are John Simon, Alhaji Manu Guga, Alh. Musa Rabi’u, Tukur Alh. Musa, Dahiru Abdu of various addresses. Operatives of the anti-kidnapping unit in collaboration with professional hunters apprehended these suspects from their hideouts. In the course of investigation, four AK47 rifles and one locally made pistol were recovered,” the commissioner said.
