The newly posted Commissioner of Police (CP) in Adamawa State, Aliyu Adamu Alhaji has on Monday assumed duty with a pledge to “flush out criminals and criminality in the state.”
The new commissioner succeeds Olugbenga Adeyanju who was promoted to Assistant Inspector of Police and deployed to man zone 3, consisting of Adamawa and Taraba States.
Speaking to newsmen at the state police headquarters , Alhaji vowed to work with all stakeholders including sister security agencies and the general public to bring crime and criminality to its knees.
“My coming to this state is solely to ensure that the ultimate vision of the Nigeria police force to make Nigeria and Adamawa State in particular a safer and more secure environment for everyone to live.
” Since I came, my management team have briefed me on these incidences. They gave me the rundown of some of the security challenges in the state and we have mapped out strategies to engage and address the issues religiously. We have a tradition of checkmating crime and criminality in the police force, we are going to adopt that. We are going to engage in a massive raid of criminals’ hideout and all black spots. And if we do that, we will checkmate their activities and we are not going to do it alone, but we will liaise with the justice department to achieve that,” he stressed.
He promised to deploy international best practices in policing the state based on core values of policing with integrity and to operate within the context of the law.
The CP also reiterated commitment to ensure enhanced visibility policing through massive deployment of personnel geared towards increased police presence in every nook and cranny of the state just as he pledged to ensure intelligence led policing.
Alhaji also pledged to ensure synergy with state and non-state actors and to form a common formidable frontier against crime and criminality in the state calling on the people to help the police with credible intelligence so as to help it discharge its functions optimally.
” We will ensure that activities of the police are carried in compliance with the core ethics of the force, international best practices and respect for human rights as enshrined in the constitution,” he stated.
