No fewer than eight bandits were killed when some bandits’ camps were raided in Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State by a joint police-military patrol in a three-day operation that ended on Sunday.

The official report said members of the operation also recovered one AK-47 rifle and burnt nine motorcycles belonging to the bandits during the operation.

The spokesperson of Katsina State Police Command, SP Gambo Isah, also confirmed the development in Katsina on Monday at a press conference.

He added that the joint police-military operation took place behind Guzurawa and Garin Gambo villages.

He said, “On 26/02/2021 and 28/02/2021, the Command in collaboration with Nigerian Army, jointly raided bandits’ camps at behind Guzurawa and Garin Gambo villages, both of Safana LGA of Katsina state, a notorious bandits’ enclaves. The operation succeeded and neutralized eight (8) bandits, recovered nine (9) burnt motorcycles, and one Ak47 rifle with five rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. The onslaught against the menace of banditry, armed robbery, kidnapping, and other heinous crimes is ongoing.”

The Police spokesperson also added that on 17, February 2021, at about 17:00hrs, the Kankara DPO and his team overpowered bandits when they attacked Zango village, Kankara Local Government Area. Adding that one AK-49 rifle with three magazines were recovered.

Gambo also spoke on the recent activities of the command, he revealed that, “On 25/02/2021 at about 13:00hrs, Police Patrol Team, attached to Faskari Division, while on routine patrol along Funtua – Yankara road, accosted the trio of (1) Lawali Duna, ‘M’. aged 40yrs, (2) Muhammadu Lawali Babuga, ‘M’, aged 22yrs and (3) Hussaini Abubakara, ‘M’, aged 30yrs of Kunkurmi village, Bungudu LGA of Zamfara state, notorious members of a syndicate of bandits and kidnappers terrorizing Katsina and Zamfara states.

“Nemesis caught up with the suspects when they were intercepted on their way back to Zamfara State from Kaduna after collecting ransom money from the relatives of a kidnapped victim. In the course of the investigation, suspects confessed to the commission of the offence.

“On 22/02/2021 at about 16:00hrs, based on a tip-off, the Command succeeded in arresting one Usman Ahmed, ‘M’, of Sabon Barka Road, Dandume LGA of Katsina State, a notorious member of kidnap for ransom syndicate.”
