Unknown gunmen, on Monday night, reportedly stormed the residence of Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, National Examination Council (NECO) Prof Godswill Obioma and strangled him to death.

The incident occurred one day after the murder of Ahmed Gulak an aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan in Owerri, Imo state.

His wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Obioma, told newsmen in a telephone conversation on Tuesday morning that the gunmen stormed their residence Monday night, strangled her husband to death and left without taking anything.

“The assassins came in and killed him and left without taking anything,” the wife Elizabeth Obioma said.

She said her husband had just returned to Minna from a trip to Abuja when the armed men, loitering in his compound, descended on him and strangled him.

Mr. Obioma, 67, was appointed last year by President Buhari and the confirmation letter dated May 15, 2020 was signed by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu.

The appointment, for an initial tenure of five years, took effect from May 14, 2020.

Obioma replaced the former Acting Registrar, Abubakar Gana. The handover ceremony was held at NECO Headquarters in Minna.

Obioma was a Professor of Education Measurement and Evaluation. He served as the Executive Secretary of, Nigeria Educational Research and Development Council.

He hailed from Abia State in Nigeria’s South-East region.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, did not respond to the call at the time of filing this report.
