The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has said that 32 pipelines in the country malfunctioned or were vandalised in February 2020.

In a statement, the Corporation’s Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Dr. Kennie Obateru, explained that 22 pipeline breaches, eight weld failures and two pipeline ruptures occurred in the month under review.

“Mosimi area accounted for 78 percent total cases, the Port Harcourt axis 16 percent and all other routes accounted for the remaining six percent,” the NNPC said.

Meanwhile, the NNPC, in its Monthly Financial and Operations Report (MFOR), announced an N211.62 billion sale of petrol in February by its subsidiary company in charge of bulk sales and distribution of Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC). The corporation said the figure was higher compared to the previous month’s record which was N151.79 billion.

“About 1.7 billion litres of white products were sold and distributed by PPMC in the month of February 2020 compared with about 1.2 billion litres sold in January 2020.

“This comprised about 1.7 billion litres of PMS and 1.09 million litres of AGO. Also, there was sale of 0.01 million litres of special product, Low Pour Fuel Oil (LPFO) in the month,” the NNPC stated.

The corporation also said out of the 241.74 billion cubic feet (BCF) of gas supplied for off-take, commercialization and utilisation in February 2020, about 146.54BCF was commercialised — while 35.83BCF was for the domestic market, about110.71BCF was for export.

A further breakdown according to the NNPC shows that the figure translates “to a total supply of 1,235.56 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas to the domestic market and 3,817.40mmscfd of gas supplied to the export market for the month.”

Comparing gas supplied to gas-fired power plants in January and February, the NNPC said while an average of 640mmscfd supplied in January generated 2,683 megawatts, about 699mmscfd supplied in February generated 3,064 megawatts of power.

“The MFOR indicates an increased trading surplus of N3.95 billion compared to the N1.87 billion surplus posted in January 2020,” the NNPC stated.
