Many residents feared death and houses burnt down following a communal clash that erupted in the Tigno farming Community of  Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Fleeing residents say that “the violence erupted following a disagreement between some Hausa residents and Chibo tribe community on Thursday after the former accidentally hit the latter with a motorcycle.

“Since yesterday, there was tension but today snowball into full blood crisis.

‘’ The crisis started as a result of argument by some youths which escalated into the fight.

“The violence began around 10 am this Friday and there was a casualty from both sides, many people were killed.

Clashes between Hausa and Choba communities in Tingno, Lamurde.

‘’ I saw over eight corpses and some injured were rushed to nearby hospitals in Lafia Lamurde and Numan town,’’ said a fleeing resident who simply identified himself as Dan Tigno.

Amid gunshots, the state Governor Ahmadu Umaru  Fintiri had visited the area Friday evening to ascertain the situation, describing the clash as devastating and alarming.

Fintiri who read the riot act on the warring communities threatened that the government will probe the matter, and anyone found wanting will face the wrath of the law.

‘’ It’s unfortunate that the mutual relationship that exists before has now went sour,  Tingno is an agrarian and commercial centre in the state but here you are destroying the place; you better sheath your sword for peace to reign,’’ adding that no meaningful achievements could be attained,  in a chaotic situation.

Also speaking, the State Police Commissioner, Mr. Olugbenga Adeyanju said that mores security operatives were drafted to the area and they are on top of the situation adding that casualty figure is yet to be ascertained.

The Chairman of Lamurde local government Mr. Burto Pwadyangakai William said many houses were burnt to ashes in Tito and Tingno as hundreds of residents were displaced.

Meanwhile, the state government has ordered the displaced persons to be evacuated to Lafiya primary school, in Lafiya where their safety is guaranteed.

Safiyanu Muhammed and Malam Jibirilla Adamu two of the displaced persons told the governor that their houses were burnt down as many residents fled.
