The Federal Government had said that the outpatients, antenatal visits to hospitals had dropped by 50%. The drop also reflected in the immunization services.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire at a press briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 on Thursday.

According to the minister, this is shown in the latest statistic obtained by the FG, the statistics showed that pregnant women and other outpatients visit to hospitals had dropped.

Quoting from the National Health Management System, Ehanire said outpatients visit hospitals dropped from four million to two million, while antenatal dropped from 1.3 million to 555,000.

He added that immunization services had reduced by half.

However, Ehanire noted that the gradual easing of the lockdown in the country would address the problems.

As of Thursday, May 14, Nigeria had recorded 5162 cases of coronavirus. Out of the figure, 1180 have been successfully treated and discharged while 167 have died.

States that pregnant women have died as a result of the coronavirus disease included Ekiti, Jigawa, and Ogun.

April 22, a pregnant woman died of COVID-19 in Ekiti State. The 29-year-old woman was reported to have sneaked to the state from Lagos State.

May 4, The West African Pilot News reported that the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Abeokuta had confirmed the death of a pregnant woman. The pregnant woman died on May 1 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Also, Jigawa State Commissioner for Health, Abba Zakari also confirmed the death of a pregnant woman in May. The woman died of coronavirus disease at the Dutse Isolation Centre.
